How beliefs fuel burnout

Our reality is a reflection of your strongest beliefs. - Anonymous

Belief is defined as “an acceptance that a statement is true or that something exists.” I love this definition because it demonstrates that belief is not simply about what is factual, but more about what someone accepts as truth. Beliefs are not just about religion, they are everywhere and influence every corner of our lives.

One of the biggest areas I work on with my burnout clients is around understanding their beliefs and what they are creating for my clients. Common themes they have are being stuck professionally, unable to change things, and/or having no control in the situation. They unintentionally used these beliefs to fuel their mind, creating feelings of resentment, anger, frustration, fear, and anxiety. These feelings have given my clients a reality of being stuck, unable to change things, and no control in situations.

One thing that a client said to me once was that they were so used to being a certain way, they didn’t know how to be another way. I get that it’s easy to slip into that fear of change mindset, BUT it doesn’t have to be that way. For instance, there are grandparents learning Facebook. They didn’t let “how things used to be” deter them from having more connection to their families and friends.
If you want to change your life, you have to start with learning to take ownership for what you believe and commit to changing beliefs that are working against your growth. You are allowed to change your mind and it is okay to give yourself permission to let go something that doesn’t serve you anymore. Doing this will give you freedom.

Make a decision and be committed to having beliefs that will help you grow. Because learning to be in control of our beliefs is the secret ingredient that makes the difference between the people who have amazing things happen to them and the people who don't. Because, when you believe in something, you don't give up at the first failure, you persevere because you know that if you keep going l, your dream will come true.

This week notice what you think about your job and any areas of life you label as "difficult." What do you think about those areas and what results are you getting? What would you like to believe instead?
