You can have career freedom as a nurse.

Have you ever thought about what career freedom would be like as a nurse?

Generally, I explain career freedom as creating a career where you feel fulfilled and valued, enjoy your life outside of work, and, most importantly, grow and expand professionally.

Seems pretty straightforward, but career freedom is still subjective for each person.

For instance, one of my clients defined career freedom as working close to her home, working part-time with the ability to pick up more hours, and in an organization that valued innovation and nursing practice.

While for another of my clients is was looking at per diem roles that would allow her to focus on building a business walking dogs.

Both of my clients are examples of career freedom for nurses but on two extremely different paths.

Is one path better or more worthy than the other?

Absolutely not.

But as nurses, we get told to be successful, you have to follow very specific jobs on very linear career trajectories.

For some nurses, this works, but for most nurses, these paths do not work. What usually happens is a whole of burnout, self-doubt, and frustration.

I want to reassure you that every nurse can create career freedom. All they need is a little imagination and self-belief.

If this is you, I want to reassure you that it is okay to break the rules and forge your own path.

And PLEASE stop listening to the people who believe that nursing won't change or you can't have a career you want.

Because that crap isn't helpful, and if you look at most of these people, they are themselves stuck in their own careers.

We are entering a time where nurses have more career options than ever before, with new nursing roles coming up every day.

And as a coach who has helped dozens of nurses find career freedom, I can reassure you that the only thing ever stopping you is your belief that it can happen.

I believe in you and your possibilities,

Mary B.
